What is SCS Mosaic?

Back in 2004, Mosaic started out as a program to address the needs of students in an Independent Life Skills Elementary School class who traditionally did not use computers as part of their learning process. After other teachers noticed that Mosaic can meet their needs as well, it was targeted to support a broader audience of students who would benefit from repetitive reinforcement using Interactive Instructional Technologies.

Mosaic is an interactive standards-based learning tool that provides support to students who need reinforcement or additional assistance in the areas of Language Arts, Math, and General Education.  Mosaic is targeted to students in grades K-8 with an emphasis on students in Independent Life Skills (ILS), Special Day Class (SDC), Tutoring and Resource classrooms.

Mosaic stimulates learning through the process of exploring and interacting with both the software/panel and other students in a fun and engaging way.  Mosaic uses a variety of sensory stimulation including auditory, visual, and touch to support multiple learning modalities.

Mosaic is designed to reinforce concepts taught by the teacher by using “multiple choice” quizzes that can be completed independently by the student(s) or with the help of an aide/parent. One unique feature of the program is that teachers can create their own quizzes using content of their choice. The basics of the programming can be learned pretty easily with assistance from SCS staff or from the programming guide (located in the Downloads section of the site).  For those who don’t have the time to create their own quizzes, we offer this as a service to teachers.
