SCS Mosaic FAQ’s

1.      What Operating System does Mosaic need: Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft Windows 7.  Go to Start | Control Panel | System

2.      What kind of CPU/Computer does Mosaic need: Any that supports the Operating System

3.      How much memory (RAM) does Mosaic need: Any that supports the Operating System. XP: 250MB Vista: 1GB

4.      How much disk space does Mosaic need: currently Mosaic needs 500 MB on the local C drive or on a server drive.  You may require additional space for assessment files and custom activities and quizzes.

5.      Can Mosaic run from the CD/DVD drive: the CD/DVD drive is not fast enough for most of the Mosaic features.  Let SCS know if this is a hard requirement at your site, and we will look at providing an alternative solution.

6.      How does one exit from a Mosaic Activity or Quiz: to exit from any activity or quiz simply select the <esc> key and the Mosaic dialog will reappear

7.      Does Mosaic support touch screens: Mosaic supports touch screens if the touch screen emulates a mouse

8.      How many Activity Panels can be connected to a single system: Mosaic supports up to 128 panels per system.  Quiz currently supports the first 4 panels for War.  Additional panels will be supported based on the needs of the users

9.      Missing DLLs (GDI, HMI, …): Check operating system version. Go to Start | Control Panel | System. Make sure system has the latest updates.

10.  Panel Not Recognized: Check operating system version. Go to Start | Control Panel | System. Make sure the system has Game Controller/Joystick drivers installed. Go to Start | Control Panel | Game Controllers.

11.  System Slow: Check RAM and virtual memory. Ctrl-Alt-Del | Task Manager | Performance. Check physical memory total. Verify physical memory available is at least 128 MB. Check Commit Charge Limit vs. Peak. If Peak is close to limit; not enough virtual memory is available.
