Strategies for the Classroom

SCS Mosaic can be used in a variety of ways to help support your students. Several strategies are listed below:

Individually

A student can complete an activity/quiz individually, so that he can work at his own pace.  The panel can be hooked up to the computer along with headphones, so that a student can work quietly and independently.  In addition, an aide or parent/guardian can work with the student in this situation to assist him with the process or prompt him as needed.

Partners

Students can also work together as partners on the same quiz in the “quiz” mode with 2 or more panels connected to the computer.  The <quiz> button must be selected on the Mosaic dialog for this option to be active.  Students can discuss the answers to a quiz and either person may select the correct answer to move on to the next question.

Students can compete on the same quiz in a mode known as “1ON1” where 2 or more panels are connected to the computer.  The <1ON1> button must be selected on the Mosaic dialog for this option to be active. Each student has the opportunity to answer the same quiz question correctly. The first student to answer the question correctly will be given a point.  If one student answers the question incorrectly, he may not select an answer again until the other student has a chance to answer with his panel.

 Class Teams

Another option for greater class involvement is using Mosaic as a whole class activity.  Students can be divided into 2 or more teams in which 2 or more panels are connected to a laptop computer in <1ON1> mode.  Mosaic quizzes can be projected onto a screen.  Each team can discuss the answer and then send their team representative to the panel to select the correct answer. Depending on the class size, students can line up at the back of the room and run to the panel or they can sit in small groups near the panel.  This can be an engaging way to involve the entire class!
